Baby Animal Days

A couple of weeks ago we considered going to the Baby Animal Days and the American West Heritage Center in Logan, Utah. The weather turned out cruddy so we didn't end up making the trip. However, since then, in has seemed like our very own baby animal days at home. We ended up getting rid of one of our dogs (Stella who we'd only had for about 5 months) and replacing her with 8 other animals! There's something wrong with that picture, I know! Anyway, now we have added 6 chickens ( I haven't taken pictures of them and now they are getting big and aren't so cute!) whose names are; Gladys, Peep, Rapunzel, Yella, Lucy and Tweety. Yesterday we also added 2, very adorable, kittens; Tilly and Tally. The kittens will soon reside in the barn when they are a little bigger and the weather is a little nicer. And the chickens will hopefully be in their completed coop soon! Right now my greenhouse is a menagerie. Nora Tess has been absolutely crazy about all of our animals lately. She spends every minute, it's nice, outside with Tonka taking him for walks and running him around. She checks the chicks 12 times a day and now can hardly sleep with wanting to be out with the kittens. The kittens are a little skittish, but that hasn't deterred her in the least. She is even single-handedly litter box training them! Anyway, last night she brought one of the kittens into the playroom to play with and when I went up to tell her it was bathtime, this is what I found. Keep in mind that these kittens are pretty wary of kids and often try to run and hide.

Reading Tilly to sleep
Closeup - yes, the cat is actually sound asleep on a bed with a blanket on
She was kind of upset that Tilly was actually asleep and not listening to her story!

Sounds like your hobby farm is coming along nicely. Are your chickens for egg, meat, or fertilizer?

eggs and fertilizer right now. Next year I will get some meat chickens. I got six chickens thinking that I might have one of two die but they are all 6 going strong - so we'll see which ones lay the best (we got 3 different kinds). We're also looking for a bumm calf that we can raise for meat. Clay thinks I'm crazy!! :)

Haha! Just a little crazy. Growing up in SV you we only pretended to be farmers. We didn't really want any of the work that goes along with it. Good luck.
